October 3, 2007 - Orlando, FL – The number of North American households with direct connections into high-speed fiber networks has surpassed the two million mark, according to a study released today by the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). The survey also shows that the rate of growth in fiber to the home connections continues to increase as more Americans look to next-generation networks for faster internet and more robust video services. Fiber to the Home Connections Continue to Accelerate

New study shows smaller telephone companies helping to lead the way to next-generation broadband connectivity

April 2, 2007 - Washington, DC – The number of U.S. homes receiving video, internet and voice services over direct fiber optic connections has doubled over the past year, continuing a recent trend of robust growth in deployment of this high bandwidth technology, according to a new study sponsored by the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council and the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA).
According to the study, released during the Digital City Expo in Reston, Virginia, 1.34 million homes are now connected to the internet via end-to-end fiber, with FTTH now passing 7.9 million homes. This compares to 671,000 connections and 4.1 million homes passed as of March 2006. Read more...
