Driving the new optical future: how standards can help fibre gain critical mass in 2010

Steve Schmid joined DSM Desotech in 1978, and prior to being promoted to R&D Director in 2004, held positions in product management, market development and business management. DSM Desotech is the global leader in the development and manufacturing of UV-curable protective coatings for fiber optic materials. Steve has over 30 years experience in the UV coatings industry and has authored over a dozen papers, been awarded 10 patents, and made several international presentations. He was a co-recipient of an IR100 Award in 1987, and also a co-recipient of DSM’s Special Inventor Award in 2001. Mr. Schmid earned a BS in Chemistry from University of Illinois, an MS degree in Chemistry from University of Houston, and an MBA from Illinois Institute of Technology.
Osman S. Gebizlioglu is Principal Consultant at Telcordia Technologies. Since he joined Bellcore in 1987, he has been involved with the development of performance and reliability assurance requirements for optical communications components. In addition to his work to support the implementation of optical communications technologies in major service provider networks, he has been involved in reliability assurance and failure analysis efforts on aerospace communications networks. He holds B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in Chemical Engineering (Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey) and Ph.D in Chemical Engineering and Polymer Materials Science & Engineering (Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey).
