June 2010 FTTH Workshop - "Next Generation FTTH Standards and Technologies: 10Gbps and Beyond"
Event Date:
Jun 2 2010 - 9:00am - 8:00pm Event Intro Text / Short Description:
Broadband’s march toward bigger and faster pipes continues. With nearly six million North American homes now connected to next-generation, fiber to the home service, industry insiders are already starting to talk about “next-generation FTTH.” So what is that going to mean for manufacturers and broadband service providers who want to keep up with this fast-moving technology?
Sponsored by:
Join the Fiber-to-the-Home Council for another in its series of “hot topic” workshops aimed at improving industry awareness of the latest technology, policy and business developments related to FTTH. On June 2, we’ll be in Indianapolis for a look at Next Generation FTTH Standards and Technologies, a subject that is certain to be of interest to any telecom service provider, fiber optic equipment manufacturer or engineering/construction company that wants to be on the cutting edge of the broadband industry.
With a 10 Gigabit EPON standard already completed by IEEE, and the ITU (FSAN) standard to be finalized this June, a commercial 10G product will be coming to market in the next two years. FTTH service providers need to become familiar with these next generation technologies as they do their long range planning, and they also need to understand how to overlay their existing deployments with next generation standards.

At this all-day workshop, which is open to anyone, FTTH service providers, equipment vendors, chip vendors and consumer electronics vendors will have the opportunity to learn more next generation all-fiber access from the individuals working on the standards committees. In addition to this, we will have representatives working on the standards coming after 10G – WDM PON and OFDMA PON.
And, as with every FTTH Council meeting, we'll hear views, perspectives and case studies from today's FTTH deployers on how they are implementing the latest technologies and using them to bring next-generation broadband to the communities they serve.
