“Getting to FTTH:  Innovative Approaches to All-Fiber Services”

A day-long session of best practices and networking opportunities, focusing on the creative approaches that some telecoms, utilities and other broadband providers are using to make their upgrades to all-fiber service.

UPDATE - Keynote Speaker for this event will be Cindy Cash, President of the Kansas City, KS, Chamber of Commerce, who will discuss the Google FTTH initiative in her community.  Download updated agenda here.

The FTTH Council estimates that more than 770 companies across the U.S. and Canada are providing services over fiber to the home networks, and that the vast majority of them expect to grow their fiber footprint in the immediate future.  Yet the paths many of them have taken to FTTH vary widely and have often involved them with a broad range of partners and other collaborators.

Join us June 8 in St. Louis for the next installment in the FTTH Council’s series of one-day workshops on next-generation broadband, and the approaches and techniques that telecommunications providers are using to upgrade to all-fiber service.

For this event, we plan to have industry experts and representatives from Midwestern companies discuss the innovative arrangements and partnerships they’ve created to advance FTTH projects from drawing boards through to deployment and the provision of high-bandwidth services to paying customers.

Among the workshop session topics are:

· Proving-In a Fiber Build:  Key Economic Considerations
· A Public/Private Partnership Approach to FTTH
· Expanding FTTH Through Electric CO-OPs
· Managing the Edge to Improve Efficiency and Reduce Cost
· Smart Grid Opportunities / Access to Video Content for Rural Providers
· Broadband – Doing it the Cooperative Way

This workshop, which is open to the public, is an outstanding learning opportunity for those interested in next-generation broadband – be they telecom service providers, consulting network engineers, manufacturers of optical access equipment, or anyone else who wants to get the inside scoop from the front lines of the all-fiber revolution.  These events typically attract upwards of 150 people from across the industry.  In addition to the wealth of information that is exchanged in the workshop sessions, there are ample opportunities throughout the day to meet industry colleagues and make business connections – as well as a wrap-up reception at the end of the day featuring table-top exhibitions by leading FTTH manufacturers and solutions providers.

As with every FTTH Council workshop, our Washington counsel, Tom Cohen, will conduct a session on the legislative and regulatory outlook, and he’ll update us on the NBP, USF/CAF and the latest from the network management and “net neutrality” front.  The FTTH industry’s premier market analyst, Mike Render of RVA LLC, will also be on hand to provide the latest on his research regarding FTTH deployments across the U.S. and Canada.
