Topic: Leveraging your FTTH Network to Deliver Differentiated Services
Registration Now Open for Course Aimed at CFHP Certification Exam
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Professionals in the growing fiber to the home industry will have the opportunity to become officially certified in FTTH network technologies through a course and examination announced today by the Fiber-to-the-Home Council, a non-profit organization of more than 200 companies and organizations dedicated to expanding the deployment of all-fiber, next-generation networks.
The Council said that the first two-day preparation course for its Certified Fiber to the Home Professional (CFHP) examination will take place September 16 and 17 in Las Vegas at the conclusion of the 2010 FTTH Conference & Expo at the Venetian Hotel Resort Casino. The Course will be conducted by the Council's training partner The Light Brigade. Further information on the curriculum, study materials and fees, as well as a link to register for the course, can be found on the FTTH Council website or by going to the Light Brigade's CFHP page.
Following this first preparatory course, the online certification examination will be made available through the FTTH Council's website. To achieve the three-year CFHP designation, exam takers will have to demonstrate knowledge of the covered subjects as indicated by a correct score of 80 percent or greater. Names of those who pass the exam will be entered into the CFHP database maintained by the FTTH Council for confirmation by prospective employers and others.
Certification is not directed at specific vendor equipment, but rather at establishing a professional competence regarding a broad base of FTTH topics.
"The rapid growth in all-fiber networks is creating a demand for professional staff who are trained in FTTH technology, management and installation techniques," said Joe Savage, President of the FTTH Council. "The goal of the CFHP program is not only to certify those with FTTH skills, but by working with our partners to offer a training program we will also be helping interested technicians upgrade their skills from legacy systems to FTTH and FTTB technologies."
"This is why we have worked closely with our partners at The Light Brigade to ensure that both the coursework and the exam are rigorous enough to assure a strong competency in FTTH design, architecture, deployment and administration technologies," said Savage.
The course and the certification examination will address topics critical to the FTTH design and planning, including applications, bandwidth issues, economics (CAPEX/OPEX), theory, standards and FTTH evolution, architectures, network topologies and network components. Further course description information can be found on the websites of both the FTTH Council and The Light Brigade.
The program is aimed at management and supervisory staff of telecommunications providers, as well as technical support managers and administrators, design specialists, telephony and network engineers and administrators, CATV/IPTV engineers and administrators, advanced network engineers and administrators.
Anyone interested in receiving an email notification on future course dates and examination procedures may sign up at the FTTH Council website, clicking on "sign up for our newsletter" and following the instructions to update their preferences for receiving information about the CFHP program.
About the Fiber-to-the-Home Council
Now in its ninth year, the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council is a non-profit association consisting of companies and organizations that deliver video, Internet and/or voice services over high-bandwidth, next-generation, direct fiber optic connections - as well as those involved in planning and building FTTH networks. The Council works to create a cohesive group to share knowledge and build industry consensus on key issues surrounding fiber to the home. Its mission is to educate the public and government officials about FTTH solutions and to promote and accelerate deployment of fiber to the home and the resulting quality of life enhancements such networks make possible. The Council organizes North America's largest annual FTTH event, the FTTH Conference & Expo, to be held September 12 - 16, 2010 in Las Vegas.
