Velocity Telephone of Minnesota announces its first Fiber to the Home/Business (FTTX) project. The Eagan Community Fiber project is the first of several FTTX projects Velocity is planning in several Minneapolis/St Paul Metro area communities. Construction is underway and will provide a Gigabit Ethernet network capable of providing Voice, Data and Video services for business and residential customers. Velocity is initially targeting the small and mid-sized business market with its fiber based broadband services which will provide the fastest Internet connection available at the lowest cost in the Twin Cities. Velocity is leveraging its 10Gb Metro Fiber Rings to connect to its newly acquired colocation in the Minnesota’s Carrier Hotel in the 511 Building where it provides colocation, hosting, data back-up and disaster recovery services. The fiber based service for business will also support Velocity’s Virtual Office service, the most feature rich and lowest cost phone system for business available today. Velocity plans to expand to residential FTTH services providing Voice, Data and an Interactive IPTV platform in mid 2010 in partnership with the Minnesota Open Video Network.
Velocity is signing up “Fiber Sponsors” who agree to help market and spread the word by showing their neighbors how Fiber based solutions can improve their business and reduce their costs. Business based dedicated fiber solutions begin at $299/mo for 10Megs with shared solutions as low as $50.00 per month when bundled. Velocity has also created a Fiber Construction company to further reduce the cost of deployment. The Ethernet based fiber network will be using a unique “Metro Ring” technology that reduces deployment costs, increases the reliability of the network and minimizes repair costs.
